Geoffrey Benes is a self-taught woodcarver utilizing only hard woods and paint. He creates beautiful and exquisite duplicates of his feathered subjects that are simply remarkable.

Geoff produces outstanding works in the images of waterfowl, historic decoy reproductions, songbirds and delicate individual wooden feather jewelry.

Combining an interest in the outdoors, the environment and wood working, each of the artist’s carvings provide the opportunity to express and educate, thus allowing his audience to gain a deeper understanding into the spectacle of our natural world.

After market hunting was banned in 1917, the manufacturing of decoys dropped dramatically. Redis-covered only within the past few decades as objects of aesthetic beauty as well as historic significance decoys now grace the art collections of discerning individuals across the country.

Carved wooden waterfowl and shorebirds are recognized today as one of the few truly American art forms. Like jazz, which began in the United States, carved wooden birds represent a link to the past.
